Bees nest being removed

Monday, October 19th, 2009

It was so sad to see all their hard work wasted and all those poor bees who lost their lives…..but I can get to my mail box now :)
The man was extremely nice and when questioned over the removal of the bees..he was very happy to answer my questions.

I was a little concerned that he was going to KILL them and not catch and release them…his reply was they don’t get paid enough to do a catch and release.

AOC Clan Wars Australia: PtK vs SISU – 18.10.2009

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Last night I got the chance to play my very first clan based war on the pc in a half life 2 mod called Age of Chgivalry. Our clan nicknamed “Pleasure to kill” tag:PtK, named after the second studio album by German thrash metal band Kreator. Enjoyed an epic win over their rivalries SISU.

PtK’s first proper Age of Chivalry war against SISU was a very close match which narrowly avoided going into a decider by winning at stoneshill with only 6 seconds remaining!

After another tight battle on darkforest, PtK managed to defend enough to take a 1-0 lead into the stoneshill match. Well done to all players invovled.. Very epic game, heaps of fun. check out the mod here: http://www.age-of-chivalry.com it’s a free..

Hanging Bees Nest

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

While out on one of my photo adventures…I came across a bees nest hanging from branches overhanging our fence.
We cleaned the garden up last weekend, so this is the result of only one weeks nesting.
What busy little bees :)

Climate Chains: A new film that seeks a reasoned and rational approach to climate change

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

Climate Chains is a new documentary by the Cascade Policy Institute that seeks to keep the sanity in the debate over cap and trade legislation:

Climate Chains from Climate Chains on Vimeo.

An Epic debate is underway in our country. Proposed climate legislation would have a far-reaching impact on your standard of living and give government a portal into every aspect of our lives. The affordable, dependable and abundant energy upon which any great civilization is build is about to be rationed. Climate Chains is our effort to engage the culture, to petition a more reasoned approach to the intellectual debate that to often gets lost or overlooked in the irrational rush to pass climate legislation in an atmosphere of national and global panic. When you’ve built the greatest civilization in human history, fundamental changes in the economics of that system must be made with the most sober of consideration.

100 years of Big Content fearing technology – technophobia

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

Ars Technica has an new article detailing 100 years worth of “Big Content’s” reaction to emerging media technologies (in its own words).

It’s almost a truism in the tech world that copyright owners reflexively oppose new inventions that do (or might) disrupt existing business models. But how many techies actually know what rights holders have said and written for the last hundred years on the subject?

The Biggest, Tallest Tree Photo Ever taken..

WOW!!The Biggest, Tallest Tree Photo Ever taken..

National Geographic photographer Michael Nichols is one of the world’s foremost wildlife photographers. But he recently said that he’d happily spend the rest of his life photographing trees. Of course, the folks over at National Geographic would almost certainly never hear of it. Nichols’ newfound love developed after a serious, yearlong relationship with redwoods.

At least 1,500 years old, this 300-foot giant in California’s Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park has the most complex crown ever mapped. (Michael Nichols/National Geographic)

Wildlife photographer Michael Nichols did it by taking a bunch of close-ups using a special camera rig and stitching them together digitally.
