Bees nest being removed

Monday, October 19th, 2009

It was so sad to see all their hard work wasted and all those poor bees who lost their lives…..but I can get to my mail box now :)
The man was extremely nice and when questioned over the removal of the bees..he was very happy to answer my questions.

I was a little concerned that he was going to KILL them and not catch and release them…his reply was they don’t get paid enough to do a catch and release.

AOC Clan Wars Australia: PtK vs SISU – 18.10.2009

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Last night I got the chance to play my very first clan based war on the pc in a half life 2 mod called Age of Chgivalry. Our clan nicknamed “Pleasure to kill” tag:PtK, named after the second studio album by German thrash metal band Kreator. Enjoyed an epic win over their rivalries SISU.

PtK’s first proper Age of Chivalry war against SISU was a very close match which narrowly avoided going into a decider by winning at stoneshill with only 6 seconds remaining!

After another tight battle on darkforest, PtK managed to defend enough to take a 1-0 lead into the stoneshill match. Well done to all players invovled.. Very epic game, heaps of fun. check out the mod here: http://www.age-of-chivalry.com it’s a free..

Recycling ‘could be adding to global warming’

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Recycling could be adding to global warming rather than reducing it, a key government adviser on waste management has said.

Peter Jones suggested that an “urgent” review of Labour’s policy on recycling was needed to make sure the collection, transportation and processing of recyclable material was not causing a net increase in greenhouse gases.

Mr Jones, a former director of the waste firm Biffa and now an adviser to environment ministers and the London Mayor, Boris Johnson, also dismissed kerbside recycling collections in many areas as “stupid” because they mixed together different materials, rendering them useless for recycling.

He suggested that much of the country’s waste should simply be burnt to generate electricity.

“It might be that the global warming impact of putting material through an incinerator five miles down the road is actually less than recycling it 3,000 miles away,” he said.

“We’ve got to urgently get a grip on how this material is flowing through the system; whether we’re actually adding to or reducing the overall impact in terms of global warming potential in this process.”

Mr Jones’s outspoken comments come amid increasing controversy over household recycling.

Last month, The Daily Telegraph disclosed that councils in England and Wales were dumping more than 200,000 tons of recyclable waste every year – up to 10 per cent of all the glass, paper, plastic and other materials separated out by householders. Thousands of tons of recyclables are shipped to China because of insufficient capacity and demand in Britain.

In some parts of the country, residents have to sort their waste into as many as seven containers, including food waste bins, which has helped councils to justify the scrapping of weekly bin collections.

Some town halls have admitted using anti-terrorism legislation to snoop on householders who fail to recycle properly, but councils have so far refused to test the Government’s bin taxes, under which people would be fined for throwing out too much rubbish.

But a collapse in the market value of recyclable waste as a result of the global recession means many waste disposal firms are having to stockpile paper, metals and plastics in vast warehouses because they are unable to sell it on.

Mr Jones’s comments will add to the suspicion of many householders that the Government’s recycling strategy is in chaos.

He said: “In overall terms we are reducing our carbon footprint by diverting material from landfill, but we are in danger of losing those reductions through the wrong policy decisions.”

Mr Jones suggested generating electricity by burning waste instead. Alternatively, organic rubbish could be pulverised and stored in vats so that it releases methane, which could be captured and used to generate electricity.

Magistrate encourages Jason Bernard Young to use marijuana

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

A MAGISTRATE has encouraged a regular marijuana user to attempt to get his drug usage legalized, because it was the only substance that numbed his pain after his whole body was badly burned.

Jason Bernard Young

Jason Bernard Young, 31, from Coolum Beach on the Sunshine Coast, appeared in the Maroochydore Magistrates’ Court yesterday on two drug possession charges after he was found with 2g of marijuana at his home in December.

Young was intoxicated when he fell off a train bridge in 1995 and sustained burns to 95 per cent of his body after he grabbed hold of the electrical wiring above the Bald Hills train station in Brisbane.
The court was told Young had tried numerous drugs and pain killers but marijuana was the best substance in stopping his aches and pains.

Magistrate Bernadette Callaghan said his case was a “tragic” one and advised Young to contact his member of Parliament to try to get his drug usage legalised.

There are very, very few people who cannot get help through normal medication,” she said.

“I think you should write to your member of Parliament about this.”

Outside court Young said his life was a continuous struggle and he was going to seek help about getting his drug usage legalised.

“I’ve been on pain killers and sleeping tablets for a long time but in the end it just ruined my body, and with some tablets I put on weight which stretches my skin and it starts tearing,” he said.

“I’ve found something that fixes it (my pain) but it’s illegal.

“I used marijuana four times a day and it pretty much relaxes my muscles and relaxes my body so I can breathe easier. It doesn’t take away all the pain but it takes away enough to get me moving and mobile and most of all it helps me sleep.”

Young said he was going to contact the Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson about the issue.

He was put on a good behaviour bond for one month.
